I had problems with my SMC card running at 100Mbs.  I was only getting
about .4Mbs (yes, .4) using FTP between 2 machines.  I found out there is a 
timing problem with the DEC chip.  I was told to set the jumper on my Intel P75
motherboard to run at 90mhz.  It then worked great, 35Mbs for FTP, (about the
speed of the disk writes.
