The pricing isn't brain damaged, it's merely competitive (among Unix
OS vendors).

If you're considering NT as a viable alternative to BSD/OS, then
BSD/OS is probably not the appropriate choice for you in the first
place.

Real (cheap) alternatives to BSD/OS might include NetBSD/FreeBSD or
Linux.  And they come with as good as or better support than NT.
