UNIX *editors* are, perhaps, less likely to be 8-bit clean, but I think more of them are becoming 8-bit clean as well. I think both C News and INN are 8-bit clean (your article arrived here as news, not mail); I don't know how many sites are running mail transfer agents will do 8-bit mail transfer, or how many mail user agents will MIME-encode 8-bit mail (or just cheat and squirt 8-bit mail unmolested).
