You certainly can have multiple aliases - we have at least a dozen set up at 
the moment with no problems whatsoever.

The preferred way of doing this is to attach the aliases to the loopback 
interface and arrange for routing within your system to point the aliases from 
the ether at the loopback interface. This means that your ethernet is not 
swamped by lots of arping for aliases on the local ether which could be a 
serious problem.
