In the same vain:  I've set up my system to launch XDM on ttyv7.
Works pretty.  Some twiddling with the files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/xdm
made a nice entryway so to speak :).  But, I've got one problem:  My
.login wont be read.  Instead I have to change my .xsession to do almost
exactly the same job as my .login.  Does anybody has a better solution
than that.

It wonder if one can change the login window of XDM.  For instance one
could display a logo (Chuck comes to mind).  Or start fvwm and use
FvwmBanner?  Have to try that..
