There is a support for DSI modems! AFAIK the .GENERIC kernel comes with it
built in. I have that modem (I think it is of older version -- it uses .car
files, while yours, probably, is using .dsi firmware), works fine...

If you need -- I can send you a little programm that downloads it (I've
got it from some kind soul from the core team (-: ).
