This was a bug in telnetd fixed in -current, and I believe also -stable so
it should be fixed in the next release.

Hmm, I've never seen these kinds of problems.

Since BSD TCP/IP is *THE* standard for TCP/IP, and it beat up heavily by
thousands of sites in the world I doubt the former, and suspect the
latter.

It could be the clone cards, or even just a bad clone card.  I have an
SMC Ultra Elite which worked fine for 5 months just go bad on me.  I initially
blamed it on SCO, but I get the *exact* same behavior running FreeBSD so
I'm more likely to blame the hardware now.

The SMC cards are nice, even though the one I hav went bad.
