BUT! There are two things that are rather unnerving. 1) I have a SCSI CD-ROM drive, and of course I'd like to use it. But when= =20 I start up the system without a CD-ROM in the drive, it hangs; first, it doesn't configure the device into the OS, and second, it tries to mount=20 it and fails. Actually, this requires a reboot. What a bummer. :-( 2) I have FreeBSD, Linux, and Windows NT on the same system. I try to use= =20 LILO for boot switching (I get the impression that the Easyboot or=20 whatever it is called just won't cut it). The setup is: wd0/hda: Linux and FreeBSD root partitions. sd0/sda: Windows NT root partition sd1/sdb: Linux, FreeBSD and Windows NT secondary partitions If I install LILO into the MBR of wd0 (actually hda for Linux), FreeBSD=20 won't boot. It will hang after detecting sc0. So I have installed the=20 FreeBSD MBR, made it point to the Linux root as the active partition, and= =20 installed LILO in the boot sector of that partitions. This works most of=20 the time; sometimes FreeBSD refuses to boot again. I can fix this by=20 firing up Linux and dumping a saved copy of the MBR onto the hard disk,=20 but this no fun, really :-( Why can't FreeBSD just live with the partition table as it is? Please answer per mail, because I don't always have the time to read news. --=20 ~~~ALWAYS LOOK | Martin Ibert - F=FCrstenweg 11 - | YOU COME FROM NOTHING~~= ~~~~~~ ~ON THE BRIGHT | D-13589 Berlin-Spandau/Germany | YOU'RE GOING BACK TO NOTH= ING~ ~~SIDE OF LIFE | Fon: +49303753479 Fax: 3753699 | WHAT HAVE YOU LOST?~~~~~~= ~~~~ ~~~(Eric Idle) | Mail: martini@heaven7.snafu.de | NOTHING!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~= ~~~~ <PGP public key is available on request or from any self-respecting key ser= ver>
