Date: 21 Sep 1995 20:18:18 GMT Organization: JPL Lines: 18 Message-ID: <43shaa$o7s@netline-fddi.jpl.nasa.gov> NNTP-Posting-Host: aris.jpl.nasa.gov Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: Mozilla 1.1N (X11; I; SunOS 5.4 sun4m) X-URL: news:comp.unix.bsd.netbsd.misc I already posted this question to a few NetBSD mailing lists, but they are so slow I thought I might get a quicker response from USENET. I just installed NetBSD/Sparc (after a WONDERFUL experience with FreeBSD on the PC), and was in the midst of building NetBSD/current, when I realized that NetBSD is still using GCC 2.4.5... Why is this?? I know there are a few optimizer bugs (at least with -O2 on a i386) in GCC 2.6.3, but NetBSD should AT LEAST move up to 2.5.8 or even jump all the way to 2.7.0! At any rate, I'm going to build 2.7.0 myself and see if anything unusual happens... In the mean time, is there any particular reason why NetBSD is still at GCC 2.4.5 or just simple inertia? -- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jake Hamby | E-Mail: hamby@aris.jpl.nasa.gov Student, Cal Poly University, Pomona | System Administrator, JPL -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
