Summary: Can I 'disklabel -w sd1c'?

I'm having a hell of a time getting sd1 & sd2 installed on a v2.0.5 box.
They're Seagate Hawk ST15230N 4.3GB drives. I'm using an Adaptec 2940
PCI SCSI controller.

From what I can see what I'd like to do is skip the fdisk step and just
disklabel the whole drive. The manual pages suggest this is still
supported, is it?

I have tried any number of combinations of fdisk'ing and disklabeling
(including having a DOS partition at the start of the drive) but I keep
ending up with the same error eventually which is a write error complaining
about bad magic on the partition table.

I get the impression that I cannot really initialize the partition information
initially with disklabel (even though the manual pages suggest I can) but
instead need to have something there to begin with. Is this true?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
