I've had Microploolis drives that took everything you could throw at them, including accidentally dropping them, and no problems. However the last two I've had have been relatively new drives, having been manufatured in the past year or so, and they have major problems with heat. Maybe it's just the luck of the draw. : A few Seagate disks are dead right way. I can't even get the Seagates to work with FreeBSD so they don't get used in that box. They do work very well in the Amiga ;-). Skip
