Date: 14 Sep 1995 19:16:59 GMT Organization: University of California, Davis Lines: 17 Message-ID: <439v3b$ql6@mark.ucdavis.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: dale.ucdavis.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] The last time I looked into messing around with FreeBSD, it looked like a truly fun challenge -- with one exception. It seems that the best way of installing it, short of downloading all of the binaries from Walnut Creek over a 14.4 modem connection (yeech!), is to buy the CD-ROM with XFree86 and all of the sources on it. However, my NEC CD-ROM drive is currently hooked up through the SCSI controller which is built into my SB-16 card. I read that (some time ago, at least) this controller was as yet _not_ supported by FreeBSD. This, of course, would make attempting to install the OS from CD-ROM a bad joke. Is there an out here? I really can't afford to go out and buy a new SCSI controller just now. Any mail would be much appreciated. Thanks MiKe
