There has been a patch posted (submitted via send-pr, to be exact) that arranges the FreeBSD PLIP interface to be Crynwr and thus Linux compatible. No positive response has been gotten (neither by the author of FreeBSD PLIP, Poul-Henning Kamp, nor by me -- i've once been asking for testers) so far.
