There is currently quite a long thread in c.o.l.d.s on IDE CDROMs, so I jumped to the conclusion that the support had only recently been introduced, particularly as a friend of mine with a Mitsumi 4x bought a Linux CD a few months ago and it wasn't supported. I did find it surprising, as Linux is usually quicker to support new devices than FreeBSD. This is IMHO one of the main factors in its popularity, rather than the number of books available 8-) Cheers James -- "If English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me!"
