Assuming you have the connection running at least some of the time, the drop-outs are not caused by FreeBSD but by hardware. Either your modem or the phone line is bad which causes drop-outs. > It simply does not work like the examples. What do you mean 'disabled by default'? 'netstat -i' doesn't show anything if something is 'disabled', it only shows if the kernel is configured with a particular network device and the parameters of that device. > Also, I have read that FreeBSD only supports 2-Slip connections. Where did you read that? If it was in the FreeBSD documentation (doubtful) it is in error. If not, where? > I dont have the money to buy a portmaster or special equipment at this > point and just need some simple help figuring out why I am limited to > terminal sessions, Or is this what I really want and only need? I'm not sure what you want/need. That's up to you. However, FreeBSD supports PPP/SLIP connections directly, though not quite as nice as a Portmaster. If it were me and I was doing a commercial ISP I'd go with the terminal server. >I was told be one person ( a large NET ) that that's all they used were >Terminal sessions, But I have not figured that one out since when I try >to use the standard Trumpet Winsock scripts The unix box shows a failure >and hangs the line until I drop carrier. Does the same Windows box connect fine to other unix boxes? After all this has been said and done, my inclination is to wonder if you've read the FreeBSD documentation provided with the release. Most of the questions above are answered in the handbook, and some of the mis-information you have implies you aren't reading the FreeBSD docs.
