Happily, doing all this web-work through a NFS mounted directory on my BSDI machine when the next day there were all these error messages on my console. One of the last, that arises from the mount -t nfs -v -o soft, intr hobbes:/gopher_archives /gopher-nfs command in the rc.local file is: "Mount: Can't get net id from host" The gopher/web archives are loaded onto the Novell server, hobbes, through the NFS mount. However, now, when I do a df to show mounted devices, Gopher_archives is missing from the listing. Trying to access the gopher-nfs directory in unix just gives me a "permission denied". Now, I don't know alot about NFS. I just inherited this system. From reading the man pages it seems like a etc/exports file and /etc/fstab file are important elements in this system. Well, my fstab file doesn't list any information about gopher_archives file system and I don't have a etc/exports file. I don't know whether they were there before these problems. Is an entry in fstab and "existing" exports file required? If so, Somebody was playing with my system. Hope you can help. John Matylonek matyonj@ccmail.orst.edu
