Compaq selss a SCSI controller with RAID built in. There is a FreeBSD driver for this best, on request from the author (it may in fact have been integrated by now). If it's not in the current sources, look up a -hackers posting with subject RAID (from http://www.freebsd.org ) and contact the author.
