  Seems pretty clear - your root file system is filling up (that's the "/"
bit). Given that sort is complaining, it would appear you have /tmp or /var
as part of the root filesystem and not on a separate filesystem. I've never
configured a system with less than 64MB of /tmp and 64MB of /var. If you're
doing big sorts, you may need something even larger. I believe sort has an
environment variable called TMPDIR you can use to have it put the temp files
somewhere else until you reorganize your partitions.
