Feel free to implement it. I believe that it would be a waste of my time for me to do so. I've had this argument with Andrew, way back when when I hunted him down and convinced him to start working on his SMB server again (way way before it was named "Samba" or there was a mailing list or news group. I was the first guy after Andrew on thie list, FYI). It is possible to overcome the problems. But the level of effort required would mean that I would want to be paid for it if you expected me to do it. This drags in GPL and other issues which I would rather not get into. You may want to get together with others who feel as you do and make a project of it.
