Of Computer Science @ SUNY SB (516)-632-8434 : Stony Brook, NY 11794 Things are nastier than this. Here is another story. I had this horrible time with a Mach 64 card. The machine would run XFree3.1, the screen would come up but the entire machine would lock up after a few minutes and would have to be rebooted. As this was our main server machine you can believe the fun we had. As a last resort, I replaced the Mach64 card with an earlier one and people are running X to their hearts content. I read reports about the Mach64 card and that made me switch cards. I have found that the the only difference is that the card that works comes up with a message saying something like ramdac - unknown and the card that hangs the machine comes up with ramdac ATI <number>/..../... Could someone please explain this phenomenon and if there is any way to make the card useable. Both are PCI Mach64 cards. -- Jin Mazumdar (internet:) mazumdar@cs.fredonia.edu >>> Dept. Of Math and C.
