Last, if I explicitly >try to mount the NFS volume by hand with the command line: > > # mount /bsd386/@mcet1: /mcet1 (I know, I know, it should be /386bsd/ :-) ) > A couple of points (1) Mount points should be chmod 777 for the mount to work properly, especially on Novell servers. (2) The mount line should read :- mount mcet1:/bsd386 /mcet1 (That is assuming you are mounting directory /bsd386 from server mcet1 onto local directory /mcet1). (3) If you want the same privileges, you have to make sure that your host has ROOT priveleges in the Novell NFS Setup for that export. (4) Make sure your host is defined in the Novell Servers HOSTS file, and the machine you are mounting is defined AS THE SHORTENED NAME AS THE PREFERRED NAME in your /etc/hosts Basically, the means that if I want to mount something with the line mount office:/system /system (Yes - this is conceivably something I could be doing!), then in my /etc/hosts file, there is a line :- 192.68.174.171 office office.ibmpcug.co.uk (NOTE the ordering of the hostnames).
