I have been having some serious problems installing FreeBSD. Back in
June, I started working on this system. It's and Acer 486DX2/66 with 4
megs of RAM onboard and a 16 meg SIMM added. I installed an AHA-1540C
series SCSI master. Off of that I am running a 2 Gig(1955MB formatted)
Micropolis HD and a Toshiba 4104 CD rom. Thier SCSI id's are 0 and 6
respectively.

My first problems arose because I need to run OS/2, DOS/Windows 3.11, and
FreeBSD on this machine. I have to reserve the first meg for DOS because
%#$%#ing DOS won't recognize more than a Gig. I also had to install OS/2
boot manager so that I could boot DOS or OS/2 separatley. That takes 1
meg in a primary partition. I then made another primary partition of 500
megs(DOS drive C:) for DOS/Win 3.11 an extended partition with two
logical drives of 400 and 100 megs. Drives D: and E: respectively. I
installed OS/2 on the 100 meg partition and use the 400 meg partition for
anything that won't fit on the 500 or 100.

The rest of the 954 I devoted to FreeBSD. At the time I installed v2.0
unfortunately the install locked(over 48 hours and it wouldn't let me log
on because I hadn't been able to do a post install config, but at least I
could get a username prompt.

I had to install v 2.0.5 for school. I figured that It would jsut be
easier to reinstall everything because 2.0 got so screwed up, that I
deleted the partition in which it was on. I reinstalled because I need
to run it for school I did everything right, but now when I get the
boot: prompt, it says that the partition is out of reach of the BIOS and
it can't find /kernel. anyone having help reply to this message and send
email to
'froboy@vt.edu

thanks in advance
