That's neither fair nor true. The 2.0.5 release contains perl scripts -- look at /usr/sbin/adduser and /usr/bin/which, for example. If there wasn't a need for perl, it probably wouldn't have been imported into FreeBSD. Perl5 is included in the distribution, but as a port. As you point out, it is very easy to build. I do not think anyone's ``sworn that 4.036'' will be the last/only version of perl in the base system. Perl5 certainly won't show up in the base distribution in 2.1, but later on...
