I don't use BSD/OS, but you should try xset(1); usually
xset s off  (turn it off)
xset s x (where x == number of minutes)

If the DPMS features have been correctly integrated into Xaccel,
xset should affect the timeout for the DPMS suspend mode. Wishful
thinking, probably ...

Try it anyway.
