I haven't tried the tex distribution from packages so I can't be sure what exactly the problem was but from the error messages a lot of the tex fonts seem to be bad or missing. If all of the executables are ok and only the fonts are messed up you could reinstall the fonts with those from a CTAN host. The ones I know of are: Host Internet address TeX root dir ---- ---------------- ------------ ftp.shsu.edu 192.92.115.10 tex-archive ftp.tex.ac.uk 134.151.44.19 tex-archive ftp.dante.de 128.69.1.12 tex-archive The file with the fonts and macros is: tex-archive/systems/web2c/lib.tar.gz You might find yourself wanting to just rebuild TeX from scratch. TeX isn't difficult to built but it is time consuming. The instructions to build it can be found in the file: ftp://ftp.cs.umb.edu/pub/tex/unixtex.ftp -- Bruce Jackson | P. O.
