As it happens, FreeBSD doesn't automatically re-label and re-format every
DOS disk you put into it, although some people would argue that's the
only sensible thing to do with them 8-)

Seriously, there've been a couple of postings recently on how to set up a 
disk dedicated to FreeBSD, which should still be in your news spool.

No, it can use the whole disk as a single partition, should you so wish.
