Date: 25 Oct 1995 16:45:55 -0700 Organization: Orthanc Systems Lines: 37 Message-ID: <46mi7j$ets@multivac.orthanc.com> NNTP-Posting-Host: multivac.orthanc.com I'm trying to get a Conner CTMS 3200 SCSI tape drive working with FreeBSD. Lots of problems so far ... Under 2.0.5-R with the NCR SCSI controller we see the following problems: * After a boot or SCSI bus reset it is necessary to write to the drive twice before using it. Otherwise the driver reports an I/O error. Under 2.0.5-R and 2.1.0-950928-SNAP: * 'mt fsf 1' works most of the time. 'mt fsf n' where n > 1 results in a hung device and a "hardware failure" message in /var/log/messages. (The 2.1 box uses the aic SCSI controller.) The kernel probe reports: "Conner CTMS 3200 7.0" type 1 removable SCSI 2 Sequential-Access density code 0x29, 512 byte blocks, write enabled I notice the 2.0.5 SCSI drivers only recognize density codes up to 0x17. I haven't checked the 2.1 source yet. So ... is anyone using one of these drives? Failing that, I would like to hear from anyone that is sucessfully using any of the Conner 4mm DAT drives - let me know the exact model number of the drive you are running. I have a feeling we're going to scrap the current one ...
