The real brain work was done by Greg Hackney of compaq, so all credit is due to him. Thanks Greg! You first need to boot 0.0. For that you need 0.0 dist.fs. If you can't get it I will make it available for ftp from met.super.org. Boot the 0.0 floppy. wdlabel the drive, and newfs it to your taste. Make VERY SURE that your entry in disktab corresponds to the physical parameters of the drive, NOT the ROM BIOS parameters! This is crucial for 0.1. I got this wrong a few times .... It was why my attempts to do this earlier failed. once you have 0.0 up on the hard drive, boot from the hard drive, put 0.1 dist.fs into the drive, and mount the floppy on /mnt. Then, (cd /mnt; tar cf - .) | (cd /; tar xf -) when this is done you have an 0.0 boot track on the hard drive, with 0.1 binaries. Reboot, and you should be there. Be sure to set up your enet card if you have one for IRQ 2. My NE2000s came wired for IRQ 3, which worked on 0.0, but not on 0.1. So rejump your card if needed. Thanks once again to Greg Hackney of compaq. Oh, and yes, I still can't build a floppy boot track, so until somebody does, your repairs must be done under 0.0. only other problem is that extract seems to have successfully extracted all of bin01, but then reported that it couldn't extract. I don't know what happened, but i do have some csh.core and sh.core files lying around. I am chalking this up to yet another extract problem until it looks like 0.1 has other problems. I am pulling over src01 now, and will report any other problems to this list. I want to be able to build a kernel ... and the wd boot track has to be rewritten eventually, as 0.0 can only boot small kernels (i.e. kernels that don't have NFS :-() ron -- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- satisfaction: the feeling you get when you | rminnich@super.org run newfs on a DOS disk so you can install 386BSD.| (301)-805-7451 Now if only I could do this to AIX on the RS/6k ...|
