The reason for this (as pointed out by BSDI tech. support) is that some PCI motherboards reserve IRQ 15 for PCI cards. BSD/OS puts 3c509's at IRQ 15 by default. Since a 3c509 is an ISA and not a PCI card, this causes problems.
