I need to research good backup devices for a company network. Can you please tell me what brand and model of autoloader and tape drive you have? Also, what other brands and models did you consider buying instead? Why did you select the brand and model that you have now? What software do you use to make your backups? Do you have a strictly UNIX network or do you also have Windows (95 or 3.11) systems on your network. If so, how do you back _those_ up? (I was thinking that for the UNIX systems, everthing could just be NFS cross mounted onto the central backup machine and then we could just tar everything to tape using some sort of DAT drive with some sort of autochanger every night. Someone else suggested spending something like $7000 on real backup software however. I told him I thought he was crazy. I still don't know how we can backup the Windows95 and Windows 3.11 system on the net though, and I would appreciate some ideas/pointers with regard to that. Note that we are running the Samba server on the central UNIX systems... if that makes any difference.) Please E-mail responses. I will summarize the responses back to these newsgroups. P.S. The central backup machine will probably be a Sparcstation running Solaris. -- -- Ron Guilmette, Roseville, CA -------- Infinite Monkeys & Co. ------------ ---- E-mail: rfg@monkeys.com ----------- Purveyors of Compiler Test Suites - ------ (c) Copyright 1995 by Ronald F.
