Because you mentioned this, I gave it a try. First thing I found was
that one had to define the screen and terminal device used on the
command line for X..

eg.,

X :1 ttyv3 <-- I only have v0 active

This worked fine -- I could even pop up an xclock on it from my original
X (access control comes later, I guess) -- however, I shortly
afterwards, when killing the xclock on the first display, got a device
in use message on my mouse (/dev/mouse symbolically linked to
/dev/psm0). then my system did some strange stuff that was reminiscent
of stuff it did when I didn't define the terminal device to use (eg.,
the console/displays locked up nicely and such) -- eventually I got the
system back under control. Anyhow, it obviously wasn't happy with the
arrangement. Presumably if I defined a different mouse device based on
a second mouse (serial) it would work? I don't know if anyone has seen
the mac-multi-monitor setup in non-mirror mode, but it's pretty amazing
how one just sort of moves the mouse off one onto the other -- I take it
that isn't possible currently? :) Assuming one had two cards/monitors
here, and ran a different X server to pull up the different config. or
even just to jump from one display to another.

anyhow, any thoughts on how to prevent the mouse problme would be nice
-- also how to autostart the X server -- I can only start the second one
from the console screen -- when it tries to load from a graphics mode
server, the system does unpleasent things.
