I setup a primary and secondary domain name server on monday because I wanted to get rid of editing hosts files (there are five different Unix maschines, three of 'em running FreeBSD, and some DOS/Windows machines.) So I set up the name service and now I'm very happy with that because each /etc/hosts file contains just 127.0.01 localhost a.b.c.d myhost.my.domain where a.b.c.d is the IP number of that host, and it's name. The machines are on different parts of the network (connected via modem line.) Name services makes things easier as I cannot remote edit config files on those MS-DOS machines. Now I don't need any host names on that machines anymore :-) IMO its much easier to install a DNS once and let it run than changing hosts files every two weeks or more often.
