Don't do this.

A modem on a Unix box should do the deepest reset that is configurable
when DTR drops.  (Some Modems, e.g. Hayes, allow for a full reset,
others can only be convinced to drop the line.)

Working around software problems by tweaking the hardware is not the
recommedable way to go.
