I have the permission I think that what you should do is kill the pppd process (which is probably hogging the serial line). What I do is that I have a kermit script which dials in & fires up ppp before exiting. Then all I have to do to bring the connection down is kill pppd which hangsup the line. (Note that you will need to tell your modem not to hangup when kermit exits - I think that it is AT&D0) Good luck, Mark -- +-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+ | Mark Hannon,| FreeBSD - Free Unix for your PC| mark@seeware.DIALix.oz.au| | Melbourne, | PGP key available by fingering | epamha@epa.ericsson.se | | Australia | seeware@melbourne.DIALix.oz.au | | +-=-=-=-=-=-=-+-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-+
