Which |> Dell might you have and what version of FreeBSD? What other information could |> you give? I'm running FreeBSD 2.0.5 on a Dell 433/L with built-in Tseng ET4000/W32i. I have a SCSI hard disk on an Adaptec 1542C controller and IBM 3510-2 CD-ROM. Works great, and I used it as the NFS Server to install onto a Dell 433/MX. The latter is IDE. Both machines have 16MB RAM.
