Joe,
The behavior of the controller, must be different when the kernel is booted
from the install.bat script on the CD (likely due to ASPI drivers???).
As when you start from the CD everything goes ok.
The problem happens when you then go to do a standalone boot.
The "batch" should get around the problem.
I had another PC around with an Adaptec 1452CF controller so I just swapped
the controllers and everything went ok.
The problem with the batch is that it is a source code fix so its a catch-22
situation as if you can't put in the patch unless you can rebuild the
kernel, which you can't do unless you have a system available...
Asides from this experience, I am very impressed with the FreeBSD
release and ease of installation. I recommend that you give it a go.
