I replaced the NVRAM chip on my system and I had no problems connecting
to the internet. The chip is VERY easy to replace. Its a BIGGER size
chip than the others and probably has the word "Dallas" on it. It cost
about $25 and Mousers has them. They'd be very easy to cross-ref to a
diff manufacturer. Its located on the MB just under the archive tape
unit.

To check out if the ethernet address is still is the system at the
boot prompt type:
dkis(,,8)sash
dkis(,,0)/unix -s showconfig

it should should the ethernet address as xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
