Randall" <crandall@dmacc.cc.ia.us> NNTP-Posting-Host: apollo.dmacc.cc.ia.us I'm having some problems installing the 10/26 (updated) snap of the 2.1 release. System: Gateway P5-133XL 16 MB RAM 1.6 GB WDC AC31600 EIDE HD (unknown controller) SMC EtherPower PCI Ethernet Card Using a fresh boot floppy, the debug console shows that the following devices were recognized: (looks right) wd0, fd0, cuaa0, cuaa1, lp0, and de0 The drive is correctly identified at boot time. I then do the following: 1) Go to the "Options" menu and toggle "Debugging" to 'YES'. 2) Choose the "Express" menu. 3) Verify that the disk geometry (3148 cyls/16 heads/63 sectors) is correct (same as in bios and in the WD manual). 4) Delete all partitions then choose 'A' (use all disk, answer 'Yes' to do this with a "true partition entry"). 5) Mark the FreeBSD partition as bootable with the 'S' command. 6) Press 'W' to write changes to disk. 7) Choose 'standard MBR' 8) Press 'Q' to leave partition editor 9) In disklabel editor, select 'A' to use auto defaults for all (32MB /, 43MB swap, 30MB /var, & 1444MB /usr) 10)Press 'W' to write changes to the disk At this time, I get the following error message "Unable to make new filesystem on /dev/rwd0s1a! Command status returned status 1" From the debug console, DEBUG: Notify: Making a new root filesystem on wd0s1a DEBUG: Executing command `newfs -b 8192 -f 2048 -u 4096 /dev/rwd0s1a' (Magic=0) DEBUG: Information: `Command output is on VTY2 - type ALT-F2 to see it' newfs: /dev/rwd0s1a `a' partition is unavailable DEBUG: Command `newfs -b 8192 -f 2048 -u 4096 /dev/rwd0s1a' returns status of 1 Any ideas/suggestions? -Randy -- Charles F.
