Well, the X server alone (which you've been starting succesfully,
congratulations!) is not of much use for you.  You need at least also
some X clients, most likely you want to have a couple of xterms and a
window manager to the least.

Try reading the man pages for xinit(1), and run the command `startx'.

If you want to get an X11 login screen, you can run the command `xdm'
(as root).
