`Backing up' a certain number of pages in a PCL5 or a Postscript
file is a decidely non-trivial task. This is why no OS in the world
that I know of does it. Just regenerate the necessary pages in the
program that produced them.

Syslogd has a generalised mechanism for doing just this. Read the
manual page for syslog.conf.
