: The solution is to disable MS proprietary data compression protocol

You know that's funny I have my Win95 PPP connecting fine with my
Annex box using compression (Pred-1) and with my FreeBSD box. I
don't know what the problem is with that, but I found that the
"extensions" to M$ PPP is for DHCP discovery. If the freebsd or
any other ppp for that matter refuses to do address negotiation
then it fails due to this extension. If it negotiates an address
then this is fine. You can negotiate an address to be what you
tell it, or refuse connection. It is when the server says forget
it bud I don't negotiate nothing, you run into this problem. Make
sure the -ip switch isn't given to pppd.
