I prefer NCSA for several reasons including better logging, Server-side includes, and multiple child httpds. I have not tried the Apache server, though it seems that is the recommended HTTPD in FreeBSD 2.1 (at least, the 2.1 HTTPD option refers to it by name). The main questions you need to ask yourself are: 1) How much of a machine will this be running on (CERN ran fine on a 386DX25 with 387, 8M RAM, 16M Swap, but I had to boost it to 64M swap for NCSA). 2) What do you need it to do? Will you need more logging, SSIs, etc.? 3) Do you know someone that runs whatever HTTPD you choose that would be willing to help you configure it, just in case you get stuck? 4) Whose manual is easier to read? (I think CERN's is a little better, but NCSA's is useable as well).
