Will -stable at some point pick up all the 2.2 We haven't quite decided. We're going to evolve this as it goes for at least part of the way - it's just too early to give a definitive answer right now. At some point, if 2.2 truly becomes super stable then we'll simply cut over. We can't keep 2.1 alive forever - it would turn into a maintainance nightmare. At the same time we can't leave users without something that fulfils the spirit of stable, if not the same release number. Like I said, we'll just have to play it by ear! > it happens.
