The problem, as it was explained to me, is that the 540 asserts the acknowledge line "too fast(??)", and the driver misses the interrupt, then times out for one second before sending the next character (or some such hocus-pocus ;-). In any case, changing the driver mode to polled from interrupt mode fixed the exact same problem for me. The 540 is quite spiffy running ghostscript, FWIW. Bud Dodson -- M. L.
