The driver correctly probes, and attaches the driver to the scanner, and it can even correctly get the information from the scanner but all attempts to get it to actually scan fail. However, Michael R. (sorry, I can't spell your name and email to you bounces) pointed me to Richard Tobin's user-mode HP scanner driver, which is working *great* with the 'pt' driver in FreeBSD. This means that I'm not goin to pursue the driver any further at this point, but if anyone else is willing I can tar up my work in progress and make it available. It might be a really simply fix, but since I already spent more time than I had allotted to this project and I have a working scanner driver, I probably won't find it. :( However, I don't think Ken's driver would work with the Canon scanner anyway, since only two drivers exist for it now, the HP and a Mustek driver. There are a lot of 'XXX - Generic SCSI scanner code needed here' throughout the sources, so I doubt it would work.
