"sd1 timeout" problems Message-ID: <47818@shamash.cdc.com> Date: 23 Sep 92 17:44:57 GMT Sender: usenet@shamash.cdc.com Organization: ICEM Systems, Inc. Lines: 74 I recently (late last week) switched over to Julian Elischer's SCSI subsystem and it's been wonderful. Response times seem to have become slightly better and stability is greatly improved. I can even reliably use my QIC150 tape (not possible with as.c) But, just 10 minutes ago, my 1.0GB drive went away and any attempt to access it resulted in lots of "sd1 timeout" messages. I had to reboot to get it back. But now the swap space on sd1 is not coming up. When /etc/rc does a "swapon -a" it says "/dev/sd1b: device not configured". This has always worked before. I thought that the "crash" might have wiped out my disklabel, but a disklabel -r sd1 results in: type: SCSI disk: 94601 label: flags: bytes/sector: 512 sectors/track: 32 tracks/cylinder: 64 sectors/cylinder: 2048 cylinders: 992 rpm: 3600 interleave: 1 trackskew: 0 cylinderskew: 0 headswitch: 0 # milliseconds track-to-track seek: 0 # milliseconds drivedata: 0 4 partitions: # size offset fstype [fsize bsize cpg] a: 1990656 40960 4.2BSD 512 4096 11 # (Cyl. 20 - 991) b: 40960 0 swap # (Cyl. 0 - 19) c: 2031616 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 991) d: 2031616 0 unused 0 0 # (Cyl. 0 - 991) which is exactly what I set up this drive for. Some background info that might be relevant: machine: 386-40, adaptec 1542B, Julian's SCSI subsystem, sd0 is a 320MB SCSI (works fine), sd1 is a 1.0GB external SCSI I also have an Archive VP150e external tape drive as st0. I've used Terry's patchkit and installed ALL patches in my kernel. /etc/fstab: /dev/sd0a / ufs rw 1 1 /dev/sd0h /usr ufs rw 1 2 /dev/sd1a /big ufs rw 1 3 /dev/sd1b swap swap sw 0 0 on reboot, I get the following message from the SCSI subsystem Sep 23 11:08:46 nevis /386bsd: aha0 reading board settings, 150 nSEC ok, use 200 nSEC Sep 23 11:08:46 nevis /386bsd: **aha0 probing for scsi devices** Sep 23 11:08:46 nevis /386bsd: dev0,lu0: type 0(direct),fixed 'CDC 94171-9 8856' scsi1 Sep 23 11:08:46 nevis /386bsd: sd0: 306MB, cyls 1549, heads 9, secs 45, bytes/sec 512 Sep 23 11:08:46 nevis /386bsd: dev1,lu0: type 1(sequential),removable 'ARCHIVE VIPER 150 21247-603' scsi1 Sep 23 11:08:47 nevis /386bsd: st0: scsi tape drive, 0 blocks of 512 bytes Sep 23 11:08:47 nevis /386bsd: dev2,lu0: type 0(direct),fixed 'IMPRIMIS94601-15 4614' scsi1 Sep 23 11:08:47 nevis /386bsd: sd1: 990MB, cyls 1931, heads 15, secs 70, bytes/sec 512 Sep 23 11:08:47 nevis /386bsd: aha0 at 0x330 irq 11 drq 5 on isa ANY help is greatly appreciated! I really want my swap space back! I was compiling X11R5 when this happened and I really want to get back to finishing it.
