I can verify that this works on a compaq 386/25, Tom having very kindly 
sent me the first 1k of his boot floppy. The compaq problem is now fixed. 
Ignore my earlier kludge messages on getting up. 
use Tom's 'clean way'. 

Install has run just fine. 

I will try to put a working boot floppy image on met.super.org, 
called 
dist.0.1.tom
