No, not a zombie.  It seems to ignore the error condition on read()
however, and loops forever instead of exiting.

Note that this used to be a very common error in older programs, e.g.
i know it from ftp(1) on an older Illtrix, too.  Perhaps somebody used
a bad template for his code? :-)
