Other than BSD/SysV differences in details, the basic concept is exactly the same. For the purpose of getting the print filters set up, a DeskJet 500 behaves (more or less) exactly like a PCL only LaserJet. Of course, you should probably use the desket drivers of ghostscript rather than the laserjet drivers...
