Even though it isn't listed as a supported OS, gimp 0.5 compiles
quite nicely under FreeBSD 2.1.0-RELEASE with the addition of one
#include line in some of the source files and linking with gnumalloc
instead of the default bsdmalloc.

    I have uploaded a statically-linked binary to freefall.cdrom.com
in the /incoming directory and once I get some feedback on it, I will
contribute it to the GIMP maintainers at Berkeley.

For comp.unix.bsd.freebsd.misc readers just joining in, GIMP is
"General Image Manipulation Program". It is a Motif-based integrated
image editor that supports 8, 15, 16 and 24-bit colour depths. It is
truly an impressive product and a must-have for those would like to do
all their Web design work under X11. It includes almost all the
simple features in Photoshop that I use for inline graphic design
(masking, fuzzy colour selection, anti-aliased brushes and text,
common plug-ins, etc.)

The Web page is at http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~gimp/ .
